Upon the request of Project Blue Book High Command, I pledge to investigate faithfully, and I swear that, as an entity of sound mind, reason, and emotion, the following consists of my findings in full. So help me Chrystella.
Look inside. Look really inside. There's more.

Background

The Office of Unusual Services was contacted by Project Blue Book High Command on the 12th of Brumith, 2023. Our organization took this case after Blue Book's agreement to share all evidence and documentation pertaining to this case. The Xenobiology Division[2] was tasked with it due to now outdated information.

The first instance of this primary phenomena (henceforth referred to as 'Rose Bulbs') was recorded in the 20th of Kryosyn 2019, after a Fleuralian couple[3] was admitted into a psychiatric institution. Initially the pair were believed to be suffering from severe delusions, seemingly under the impression that they would die if separated. An investigation into Unusual Causality[4] only began when the two of them had near-synchronized cardiac arrests, and autopsies revealed no signs of previous heart conditions or traces of poison.

Since then, local authorities noticed an uptick in cases of physical deformities, mental illnesses and violence, the majority of them related to romantic relationships around the period of early Kryosyn to late Talvian. Once a decent number of these cases where compiled, Project Blue Book's[5] involvement was requested.

Originally speculated to be a new pathogen, the targeting of Blue Book and our own officers, even those with no meaningful relationships or no contact with 'infected persons,' lent credence to the idea that Rose Bulbs are either spread purposefully, or are not a pathogen and are instead 'passed on' to a person through more esoteric means.

The implications of this discovery are not to be ignored.

Evidence

Medical records in Lunebelle and surrounding localities

Through the obtaining of these records, our officers have pieced together the most common patterns of Rose Bulbs, including their symptoms. The Xenobiology Division has also used these records to conduct their testing towards 'curing' Rose Bulbs, though as of the time of writing this no such efforts have succeeded.

Patterns and symptoms of Rose Bulbs, from least urgent to most:

  • Green Bulbs: Beyond reasonable delusions of their partner's innocence, subjects have even denied murder itself even after seeing their partner commit it in front of them. Heightened emotions, compared to periods of mania and depression, these heightened emotions can also manifest in anger and violence.
  • Peach Bulbs: Involuntary telepathy, a constant two-way stream of information between two individuals which does not stop. Research from the Xenobiology Division has corroborated what the afflicted have claimed, that the other person's thoughts cannot be 'turned off' like cases of regular telepathy, resulting in mental distress over long periods of time due to 'thoughtform collision'.[6]
  • Burgundy Bulbs: Believed to be the motive behind at least seven murder cases, symptoms of Burgundy Bulbs include a heightened sense of paranoia, possessiveness over romantic partners, an obsession with demonstrating romantic affection, and neglecting other aspects of life completely.
  • Lavender Bulbs: The first phase of symptoms are taken at face value, as a 'peak' of romantic feelings towards a partner, the second phase tends to be received as abandonment issues, where the constant doubt of the other leaving them becomes pronounced, the third phase starts the unraveling of their psyche, and an idea is planted seemingly overnight, that if the pair separates then they will die. This is, unfortunately, true, and interventions during this stage have always lead to death.
  • ---: The merging of two individuals together, both mind and body, a painful process, the most any 'persons' has survived after this has been a record of six hours. Chrystella bless their souls.

Autopsies

"Please contact your superior if you need access to the autopsy records of the case. Really harrowing stuff. Not for the faint of heart. -Administration"

Hypotheses

There are multiple hypotheses regarding the origin and nature of Rose Bulbs, but most of them have been rendered outdated due to the ever-increasing amount of new evidence. The OUS along with Project Blue Book are looking at certain parties of interest in Lunebelle, but the source of these ailments is as of yet unclear. More research is needed.

Final Notes

As of this article's writing (20th of Kryosyn, 2025) it has been exactly seven years since the first recorded instance of Rose Bulbs. Project Blue Book High Command has heightened its presence in Lunebelle to prevent any tragedies ahead of the festivities.
